The Village of Streamwood, Illinois, replaced full depth asphalt and granular base with roller-compacted concrete (RCC). The RCC provides a stronger base, and the village estimates at least an initial 15 per cent savings in design, and a longer service life with less maintenance.

Learning Objectives:

1.     Recognize significant cost savings and longer pavement life through the utilization of a relatively new pavement material.

2.     Apply information learned to specify, design and construct a stronger, longer lasting pavement.

3.     Construct roller-compacted concrete with confidence using in-house workforce and equipment.
