A number of agencies have equipped their trucks with Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) systems that are GPS based. They have also added forward-facing cameras to their trucks which take photos every five minutes (for example). Both the photos and the position data of the trucks are then collected and displayed on a web server in near-real time for use by operations staff at the agency, and in some cases to provide information to the public.
