The push to privatize government services has been discussed at Council meetings across North America.  In response, many fleet managers have been asked to consider outsourcing vehicle maintenance services.  Whether you are an agency from a small community or a major city, effectively and efficiently managing your heavy vehicles and equipment fleet is a top priority.   However, public and private fleet operations have considerable differences.

So – how do you help your community make the correct decision for YOUR agency? This session will compare and contrast the operations, politics and economics of private versus public fleet maintenance. Discussion will focus on: How to evaluate your shop to identify the best configuration for your operation; the differences between economies of scope versus economies of scale; how to identify what needs to be measured and how to do it, and understanding the differences in culture as well as the impact public policies and mandates have on fleet operations.
After viewing this program, participants will be better able to:

1.       Communicate the implications of operational changes on fleet costs and processes.

2.       Clarify the difference between economies of SCALE versus economies of SCOPE

3.       Identify benchmarking metrics to get and stay competitive
