The Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework provides guidance for project teams to implement more sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects that are cost-effective, resource efficient, and adaptable long-term investments. Envision can and should be used throughout the entire project development process, but delivers greater value when applied early. There may be some misperceptions in the industry about when and how to apply the framework, and each individual credit. Once users understand where in the development process Envision concepts and credits can most effectively guide project team assessments and decisions, the value of early implementation becomes clear. This session will help participants visualize how Envision can fit within the project development process timeline. It will highlight when Envision concepts might be applied across planning, design, and construction to: Make sure the timespan for related activities doesn’t lapse. Optimize timing for sustainability and resiliency considerations related to decision-making. Thoroughly examine potential trade-offs and opportunities to improve the project’s sustainable performance and resilience. This includes sharing a timeline visualization graphic that aligns project phases with credits, tools, and resources. In addition, the intent will be to engage a project owner with a verified project to share an example of early integration on an Envision project.

After this session, participants will be better able to:
• Describe how Envision improves project sustainability and resiliency at different points in the development process.
• Convey the benefits of implementing Envision early in project development.
• Apply Envision concepts to improve the sustainability and resiliency of current or future projects.
