The Envision sustainability framework was designed to help infrastructure stakeholders implement more sustainable, resilient, and equitable projects. Managed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI), Envision can be aligned with the specific goals of an infrastructure project or program. Kailey Eldredge, Envision verification specialist with ISI, will kick off this session with an overview of ISI and Envision and how it is transforming infrastructure projects of all types across the globe. She will be joined by Matthew Cassel, city engineer with the City of Riverton, Utah, and Envision sustainability professional, who has used Envision to inform the design and planning of six transportation projects in Utah. He will be joined by a representative from Salt Lake City, Utah, who worked with Matt on completing an Envision scoring evaluation for three roadway projects. Envision helped the city identify low-cost sustainable solutions, helped the design team think through opportunities for long-term operational savings, and overall raised sustainability awareness. They will share specific project examples to illustrate how Envision benefited the projects and is influencing systematic change in Utah. The underlining goal for this endeavor was to possibly identify and create a minimum Envision certification requirement for municipal road projects and to understand what realistic certification level might be.

After this session, participants will be better able to:
• Use Envision to evaluate sustainable, resilient, and equitable solutions for infrastructure projects.
• Acquire some of the benefits realized using Envision.
• Create a realistic expectation when requiring a mandatory Envision certification level for road projects.
