Extreme weather and acts of terrorism highlight the need for resilient infrastructure systems and responsive public works staff. The academic community is beginning to respond by offering specific course work to better prepare future engineers for this broad and rapidly evolving topic. In this presentation learn about the "Core Competencies of Resilience" being taught at the University of Iowa. These competencies include better strategies for planning and design, as well as operational skills for emergency response and disaster recovery.
