Public works professionals are expected to reach, engage, and build bridges with diverse constituencies in communities throughout our nation and abroad. Whether communicating about construction activity, upcoming projects, or general information about agency goals and planning, it is important to reach a broad sector of community members. During this dynamic lightning round discussion, representatives from the cities of Carlsbad and El Cajon, as well as the award-winning Ardurra Community Relations division, will discuss key strategies and tactics they have used to engage target stakeholders, and build support for their projects as well as lasting community relationships. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Identify updated strategies and tactics to help address the latest challenges and opportunities due to community/ecomic realities post-COVID-19, social unrest/protests, and emerging digital communication platforms.
• Develop outreach goals and communications planning that considers community demographics and leads to branding, key project messages, and taglines that incorporate multiple languages and audiences.
• Discuss the benefits of and how to create educational and engagement programs for diverse audiences.
