With many public works professionals approaching retirement or retired, now what for the profession, their knowledge, and participation in APWA? The session will first focus on why what they have done in their career is vital to their communities. There will be examples of communities that don’t have the infrastructure that public works provides, and discussion on why their work has been vital to society. We will then explore the many opportunities to be involved and give back. Teach at an institute, join a chapter committee, and judge at a roadeo; there are endless opportunities to be involved in a meaningful way.
At the conclusion of this session participants will be better able to:
• Recognize they hold a trove of knowledge that is vital to communities.
• Prepare to continue in APWA in a meaningful manner.
• Serve their communities through speaking to service organizations, mentoring the next generation, or being involved in creating programs to guide public works employees.
