This workshop is geared toward professionals who currently use ground-penetrating radar or are considering using ground-penetrating radar to locate pipes, utilities, and other buried infrastructure. There is limited information in the marketplace on how to properly set up and operate ground-penetrating radar instruments in the field. The workshop organizers will present the key setup features available on most GPR systems and review the proper setup of the instrument prior to data collection and use. The students will also be exposed to the proper application of filters to improve data quality and best practices for estimating target depths. The education will be mixed and include some review of basic concepts and practical hands-on use of GPR systems.
At the conclusion of this session participants will be better able to:
• Set up their ground penetrating radar (GPR) unit properly to locate and mark buried utilities.
• Filter data on the GPR unit to improve data quality and make better interpretations.
• Estimate the depths of buried pipes and utilities using the direct measurement method and the hyperbola matching method.
