This session will explore the nexus of resilient infrastructure and public open space. The Tower Grove Park East Stream Restoration brings sustainable stormwater management, history, ecology, education, and play to the landscape of a Victorian park listed as a National Historic Landmark. Tower Grove Park is one of eight National Historic Landmark parks. Opened in 1872, the 289-acre park is at the center of some of the most socioecomically diverse and densely populated neighborhoods in St. Louis. The Park is an accredited arboretum with an internationally rewned collection of Victorian architecture. It hosts hundreds of events annually and sees over two million visitors annually. The presenters will explore how a stream daylighting project has pushed the boundary of how we address infrastructure in the public realm. Several focus areas will be discussed to illustrate the impact a project of this type can have on the community. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Determine how resilient infrastructure can impact public parks and open space in a dynamic way.
• Describe how public/private partnerships can create win/win scenarios.
• Recognize how an inclusive design process can enable more equitable outcomes.
