Inspired by the 2015 National Public Works theme “Community Begins Here,” this presentation focuses on CPWA’s advocacy and outreach efforts for public works, federal infrastructure programs and other initiatives that affect communities across Canada. CPWA President Kealy Dedman provides an update on the Canadian Infrastructure Report Card, CPWA’s collaborative efforts, and CPWA’s growing involvement as stakeholders at the federal level. Ottawa-based CPWA Consultant, Alan Young, provides an up to date report on pre-election activities at the federal level as well as the role that infrastructure will play in the upcoming election.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review CPWA collaborative efforts on projects like the Canadian Report Card for Infrastructure, Municipal Infrastructure Forum, and others.
  2. Explore how CPWA’s public outreach on projects like National Public Works Week help raise the profile of public works.
  3. Identify ways the federal government has upgraded its commitment to municipal infrastructure with the New Build Canada Plan and other investments and recognize the role that infrastructure will play in the next election.
