Inspired by the 2019 National Public Works theme ““It Starts Here,” this session will focus on CPWA’s advocacy efforts for public works, federal infrastructure programs and other initiatives that affect communities across Canada. CPWA President Steve Blayney and President-Elect Chris Hamel will provide an update on CPWA’s public policy priorities, CPWA’s participation in collaborative advocacy efforts with other associations, and CPWA’s growing involvement as a stakeholder at the federal level. Ottawa-based CPWA Consultant Alan Young will provide an up-to-date report on federal government activities and the outlook for the October federal election.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review CPWA activities and priorities, including collaboration and partnership with other associations.

2. Explore how CPWA’s public outreach on projects like National Public Works Week helps raise the profile of public works.

3. Identify ways the federal government continues its commitment to municipal infrastructure and what to expect in 2020.
