Utah’s Variable Speed Limit (VSL) System

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has a Variable Speed Limit (VSL) corridor along I-80 through Parley’s Canyon (between Salt Lake City and Park City).  This system currently operates remotely by engineers that are on call 24/7.  UDOT is now in the process of developing software and infrastructure that will allow the VSL corridor to operate automatically, based on speeds and road weather conditions.
