Summer Recess on the Horizon—Could There Be a Cabinet Reshuffling?
With the passing of the Budget Implementation Bill from the House of Common on Thursday, June 8, it need only pass the Senate before receiving Royal Assent. With the Senate already having done preparatory work at Committee, this should be a more accelerated process than in the House.
The House of Commons will rise no later than June 23, but often rises a few days early, especially if the Budget has already been passed. Meanwhile, there is an emerging consensus among those close to the Hill that a reordering of ministerial deck chairs is likely this summer. By the time the House resumes in September, we will likely see a few new or shuffled ministers getting briefed up on their new roles.
