Ever wonder how a weather forecast is really created? Throughout history, meteorology has been one of the “black magic” sorts of science. Mostly science, but also an art sometimes, creating a weather forecast involves both. In this panel discussion, three experienced meteorologists will be available to answer the tough questions. Questions like, “What is your secret to a great forecast?” and “What is the biggest forecast miss you had and how did you get through it?” Bring your own questions you have always been meaning to ask! Almost every agency works with meteorologists when making their wintertime decisions, whether it is the National Weather Service or a private service. This panel will share their experiences and how you can use those to help you better interact with meteorologists. You will also gain insight into what you should be looking for ahead of that next winter storm.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be better able to:

• Communicate with meteorologists to determine the best course of action.
• Interpret weather information for making winter maintenance decisions.
• Disseminate weather forecasts to make more confident decisions.
