High turnover, retirement, and a competitive employment market are all factors forcing today’s public work leaders to look for non-traditional workers to fill vital positions in their departments. How can we train that workforce quickly and inexpensively? How can we meet the new CDL Entry-Level Driver Training requirements without the fear of someone leaving for a better-paying job? A question we should be asking is, what have other industries done to solve this issue for their workforce? The short answer is to add training simulators to their training programs. The military, airline, trucking, manufacturing, and medical professions use simulated learning and training methods. So why not public works? In this session, participants will hear from experts about how the Indiana LTAP has integrated a truck simulation solution into its CDL and snowplow training programs for the benefit of Indiana public works professionals.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be better able to:
• Measure the value of simulated-based learning and acquire tips to help integrate this model into their training and workforce development.
• Develop a plan to improve the training and learning of their CDL and snowplow operators.
• Train the next generation of public works professionals.
