Strategic planning projects often fail because, ironically, they failed to plan their own project. This occurs due to several factors. Often the organization’s leaders are unaware of the general steps of the strategic planning process and the resources needed to support these steps. Another reason is that leaders often think changes occur magically. Strategic plans often are looked at as something separate and not connected to program development/implementation, budgeting/resource allocations, overall organizational philosophy.
