Succession planning is at the forefront of every manager’s mind. Through retirements of long-serving public servants and rmal attrition rates, there are gaps that strain the organization. Small communities have fewer staff resources available to serve the increasing demands of their communities adequately. Any loss in staff resources has a major impact on the overall health of the organization. Learn from leaders in small communities who have developed aspects of their organization’s succession plan to assist with providing continuous service without reduced quality to the residents. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Determine strategies to recruit and retain quality employees that fit the organizational culture, filling the gaps left behind by employees who depart the organization.
• Develop a creative training and mentorship program that will enhance employees’ abilities in small communities.
• Review the trends in techlogy that can assist with recording the institutional kwledge of the long-serving employees before they depart the organization.
