Frequently, large cities and highly urbanized metro areas celebrate community sustainability efforts or Smart Growth. However, it can be tougher to find prominent sustainability practices in America’s smaller towns and cities—many of which are struggling to stay alive and have trouble assembling the resources for new initiatives. This presentation will outline a practice designed to reduce sustainability challenges, allowing small cities and communities to move through a process of assessment, convening, and action planning in creating a strategy to identify a sustainability initiative for implementation.

Learning Objectives:

_Identify resources to support sustainability initiatives.

_Conduct an assessment for potential sustainability efforts.

_Discuss how sustainability is directly connected to a community.
