James Sun is a highly successful serial entrepreneur, managing partner, and angel investor of several companies and a thought leader on diversity and inclusion. He takes a new and interesting approach to diversity, stressing the value of people’s differences in culture, race, and beliefs as opposed to ascribing to the maxim that we are all the same. His philosophy is a culmination of his personal experiences combined with his study of human behavior by analyzing millions of data points around online ethnic social dynamics.  In 2007, he was the first Asian male to land a spot on the television series, The Apprentice. He made it all the way through 14 weeks of the competition becoming the first Asian finalist on the show. After his stint on The Apprentice, the BBC gave him his own show called The Sun Tsu Art of Business where he was tasked with and successfully accomplished turning around 12 companies in 18 months.  James encourages organizations to tap in to the diverse cultures in their workforces to empower employees to take more ownership in projects and initiatives and to give diversity cues to the company about how the products they sell are perceived, useable, and best presented to different cultures and ethnicities.  This new trend transforms the original philosophy that everyone is the same; and instead puts the focus on the difference as the underlying strength. James was recently selected as a top 100 alumni from the University of Washington in the “Wonderous 100 Alumni Award.” Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired by James’ personal journey and passion as a unique diversity advocate.
