Rochester Hills, Michigan, used a $15M investment in a roadway improvement project as a catalyst to transform a half-mile stretch of an old state-owned highway through a local commercial corridor into an award-winning example of ecomic development through placemaking. The session will demonstrate the strategies used to transform one of the community’s older, less attractive areas into the destination everyone wants to visit or move to. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Implement new strategies for traffic calming and access management in an urban area.
• Demonstrate attractive roadway landscaping strategies that capture roadway pollutants and manage stormwater ruff.
• Increase ecomic development through improved quality of public space.
