Organizational culture has a profound influence on service outcomes. As esteemed members of the Public Works community, you understand the critical need to cultivate and sustain healthy cultures within your agencies. However, it’s disheartening to learn that a staggering 80% of public sector culture change initiatives fall short of their expected outcomes. We believe it’s time to change that narrative. In this transformative session, we will combine research on organizational culture and our experiences in Houston Public Works to uncover influences on the high failure rate of culture change initiatives. Our goal is to empower you, as leaders, to harness trust as a driver of positive change. We will share insights regarding organizational identity, alignment, and automy that will enable you to achieve the profound impact you envision from your culture change efforts. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Describe the impact of identity on successful culture change.
• Evaluate the alignment between leadership decisions and desired outcomes.
• Utilize automy to increase culture change integration.
