The Los Amigos Park Stormwater Harvesting and Direct Use Demonstration Project is the first project of its kind to capture offsite runoff for treatment and use onsite. This multi-benefit process involves diverting urban runoff from the local storm drain system into a subsurface storage system within a school. Flows are pretreated to remove trash and debris, then pumped and treated with a UV treatment system prior to use. Treated runoff is then used for irrigation and toilet flushing, offseting 550,000 gallons of potable water annually. The Project improves water quality within the Santa Monica Bay, contributes towards compliance with local regulatory requirements, and assists the City in meeting their goal of becoming water self-sufficient (One Water). This presention will discuss the many benefits of stormwater capture and use projects; how to create outreach and awareness programs to educate stakeholders and the community about the project; and how to understand the regulations surrounding stormwater capture and use projects.

Learning Objectives:

_Plan for and implement stormwater capture and use projects that provide multiple benefits to the surrounding communities.

_Implement comprehensive outreach to a large group of stakeholders that includes school staff, students, parents, sports leagues, and summer programs that effectively and efficiently inform and prepare those impacted by the Project.

_Identify regulatory framework and requirements that could impact capture and use projects, including, but not limited to, treatment requirements, health department permits, and school permits.
