Hosted by APWA's Center for Sustainability. Local governments need better information to promote decision making that reflects value-for-money comparisons of public investment proposals among various infrastructure projects. This presentation will discuss the process and tools through which non-cash costs and benefits, plus externalities, can be calculated and presented in monetary terms for “apples-to-apples” comparison, referred to as the Sustainable Return on Investment or SROI.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify best practice methods for quantitatively accounting for the triple bottom line (Social, Environmental, Financial)
  2. Evaluate how to optimize the best value for money while achieving sustainability goals
  3. Recognize how a risk analysis framework can account for the uncertainties in infrastructure construction and operations
