The “internet of things” era is officially here, and you don’t want to be left behind…but how do you make it work for you? The Maricopa County Department of Transportation implemented a new asset management system in September 2018. The presenters will share lessons learned on implementation and how the program has evolved from retroactively tracking work performed to planning future projects, scheduling maintenance work, and sharing information across divisions to create a proactive maintenance program. Three different divisions will share how they use an asset management system to plan and track their individual work and how they use it together to coordinate projects across divisions. Additionally, MCDOT will share how they are using the asset management system to manage a pavement preservation program. Using an asset management system to manage a pavement preservation program allows for managing stakeholder expectations, tracking historical data, and identifying what is working and what is t. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Coordinate projects between work groups, branches, or divisions to avoid rework and allow all players to see the project from start to finish.
• Use an asset management system to plan and track a pavement preservation program and improve future work planning, moving from reactive maintenance to a proactive maintenance program.
• Describe common lessons learned and opportunities to use an asset management system to create a full roadway maintenance program.
