This webinar provides an introduction to automated vehicles (AVs), including an international context. The session reviews relevant terminology related to AVs as well as defines and distinguishes between automated, autonomous, connected, driverless, and self-driving vehicles. Also discussed are the potential benefits of AVs as well as concerns, from the perspective of individual travelers, the private sector, and communities (i.e. the public sector). Discover the relationships between AVs and transportation infrastructure, covering roadway maintenance, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, funding infrastructure upgrades, and planning infrastructure for an AV future. The session concludes with a brief overview of AV pilots in Australia, Singapore, Helsinki, and San Diego.

After participating in the program, participants will better be able to:

· Define and identify key terms and acronyms related to automated vehicles

· Differentiate between different types of emerging vehicle technologies

· Identify and express the potential benefits and pitfalls of automated vehicles in the future

· Determine and then analyze potential infrastructure investments to support connected automated vehicles
