Cyber security attacks—and the capacity of adversaries to target broader service categories and smaller-size systems—are increasing almost monthly. A cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline in 2021, which provides 45% of gasoline and diesel on the East Coast of the US, led to a pipeline shutdown. Systems that ran the pipeline were shut down by the operators to avoid migration of the infection. This led to shortages, panic buying, and some of the highest-ever spot/futures prices. Some public sector critical infrastructure systems have much less time to react without disruptive multisector service impacts. This presentation will be from the perspective of a n-technical executive and manager. Small to mid-sized systems water and wastewater will be a focus. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Unlock grant funding opportunities.
• Increase community benefits by providing flood-risk reduction, water quality improvements, and community enhancement benefits as part of one project.
• Provide water quality benefits within the footprint of existing drainage facilities.
