A tabletop exercise is a popular and fairly uncomplicated method of testing a disaster recovery plan while providing a practical gut check of procedures to follow should a particular event occur. This type of informal preparedness training enables planners to enhance continuity plans without causing major interference of normal operations. Tabletop exercises for disaster recovery take a small amount of time and cost nothing more than the salaries of participants. Use this type of exercise to ask yourself the following questions. Who is the primary contact? How do you reach that person? Is the contact information valid? Who is responsible for making the call?

After this program, participants will better be able to:

  • Identify steps to develop a tabletop exercise
  • Utilize an informal exercise to prepare an agency's staff
  • Determine how to get operations started again after a disaster
