This program provides an overview of the process two cities – one US and one Canadian – used to develop and write Sustainability Action Plans for their communities.

Public works professionals are good at identifying outcomes, the processes needed to get there and the strengths and weaknesses of every approach. Learn how to leverage these skills in the development of your Sustainability Action Plan.

This program will outline the elements included in a comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan and explain the process these two communities used to build stakeholder support for their efforts. Practical examples of the engagement process will be included as well as examples of the types of questions you need to be asking as you develop your Sustainability Action Plan.

After viewing this program, participants will better be able to:

  • Identify the elements necessary to create a comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan
  • Understand the different processes used to bring key stakeholders along in the development process
  • Learn how to get started on your Sustainability Action Plan when you have no money, no expertise in house and no commitment or support from your leadership
