Many of us think we kw what is best for our workplace and our communities, but sometimes we actually may t, and that can lead to frustration for employees and the boss, or even worse, the communities we serve. This topic will be presented in an interactive panel/roundtable with facilitated questions and responses providing participative engagement for all present. There may even be prizes for the best contributions. The focus will be directed to those in first-line supervision and mid-level managers in an effort to help them excel at understanding the big picture, understanding their boss as well as their staff, understanding their role, and understanding their community, but will be equally as interesting for those seasoned professionals who may kw it all and just need a reality check or refresher to revitalize their perspective. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Recognize and understand the challenges of communicating with the boss, the city council, the staff, and the community better.
• Diagse the political hurdles and obstacles often associated with public works and public service and learn to overcome each challenge.
• Determine how to deal with being anyed often, regularly, and without warning, and how to deal with it successfully.
