How the City of Ottawa is Optimizing Fleet Operations with Data Science

Overseeing the City of Ottawa’s public works fleet involves many moving parts. Canada’s capital city relies on thousands of vehicles to maintain roadways, public services, and infrastructure. Information management and evaluation can be extremely complicated when you have these many pieces in constant motion. stranger to telematics, the city looked to Geotab’s Data Science Package offering and the expertise of rthern Business Intelligence to help collect and make sense of their data. Working with multiple software systems, the city needed a way to consolidate all the data gathered from Geotab and transfer it to its Power BI. t only that, but the city also wanted to measure its data against industry trends for safety, such as exception events and speeding. For Geotab and Power BI to “talk to each other,” rthern Business Intelligence was tasked with building a middleware application hosted in the Google cloud. The custom-made middleware connects to the Geotab API, feeding data back into the city’s Power BI. While the project is ongoing, the city can w access and evaluate its data from one database. Together with the Geotab Data Science Package, the City of Ottawa is equipped to make insightful decisions about fleet operations.
