The environment in which public works professionals conduct their operations has transformed and continues to change rapidly. As a result, leaders need to be far more flexible in adjusting to virtual leadership, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, a greater emphasis on emotional intelligence, and the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. Leaders who are able to strategically develop these skills will adapt to the changing surroundings and be well-positioned to succeed in the years ahead. Finding leaders within any organization requires accurate recognition and evaluation of employees’ skills. This session will help participants identify the skills and abilities that correspond to the multitude of changes that have impacted all levels of public works leadership. Hear from current young leaders in both the public and private sectors as they discuss ways in which professionals can identify future trends in leadership and use them to redefine existing leadership within their organization.
At the conclusion of this session participants will be better able to:
• Adopt new forms of virtual leadership that highlight empowerment, collaboration, and engagement through digital teams.
• Develop new skills to manage and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and automated techlogies effectively.
• Prioritize the importance of emotional intelligence and human skills such as empathy, invation, and collaboration to create inclusive cultures that ensure diverse perspectives are represented at all levels of the workforce.
