With the $1 trillion influx of infrastructure funding heading to communities across the country through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), communications and community engagement professionals will soon be working collaboratively with Capital Improvement Project (CIP) teams on everything from roads, railways, ports, and bridges to broadband internet installation, accessibility projects, and water quality improvement programs. Much thought has been given to project priorities, but less attention has been given to designing effective communication and outreach strategies to support this impending work. This 75-minute session will help attendees understand whether and when to engage, how to craft a solid strategy, and what it takes to implement a successful engagement process for upcoming capital improvement projects. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Determine whether and when to engage in a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) project.
• Craft a solid outreach strategy to implement a successful engagement process for capital improvement projects.
• Identify the appropriate public participation goal for CIP projects using the IAP2 Spectrum.
