Newly constructed, altered, and existing facilities are required to be readily accessible to people with disabilities. This session will put into practice the application of the technical requirements for public pedestrian facilities, as provided in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design and the Proposed Public Right of Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG). Attendees will learn how to design compliant and accessible curb ramps. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Apply technical standards to the design and construction of curb ramps.
• Obtain field surveys, and develop practical solutions for common design and field challenges.
• Explain exceptions such as construction tolerances, unreasonable hardship, technical infeasibility, safe harbor, and historic preservation to existing and new facilities.
