The Cities of LaVista and Omaha, Nebraska, are bordering Midwestern cities of vastly different scale. Both face significant challenges when dealing with winter sw and ice events. The speakers will be comparing and contrasting all aspects of winter preparedness and event operations, including unique solutions for each community, strategy and planning for winter operations, material selection and usage, techlogy usage, equipment and fleet, resource allocation, challenging public relations situations, training, personnel management, operational strategy, and response to extreme weather. The presenters will highlight each community’s needs and the differences in scale relative to each aspect of winter maintenance. They will also highlight how similar these operations can be and the successes within each community.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be better able to:
• Plan for winter operations in a range of community sizes.
• Use available winter resources in a community of any size.
• Compare winter operations with other communities and understand the differing needs of other communities.
