The City of San Diego is undertaking an ambitious plan to develop a new source water supply. The Pure Water Program—the largest infrastructure program in the City’s history—is a potable reuse program that recycles wastewater to develop a safe, reliable, and cost-effective water resource to provide up to half of the City’s water supply. With planning that started in earnest in 2006, construction of the $1.5 billion first phase is fully underway. Getting to this point has required the City to address a variety of complex technical issues that will be discussed during the presentation. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Describe the value of reliable, drought-resistant water supplies.
• Explain how Pure Water San Diego provides water supply certainty for San Diego.
• Discuss the ongoing construction progress and unique features of the Pure Water construction packages.
