The presentation will showcase the expansive Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Brevard (Florida) Public Schools that trains (and certifies) high school students for careers in several public works fields, including construction, HVAC and controls, utility plant operations, automotive maintenance and repair, design drafting, and business operations. Students intern in their (or other municipal) operational departments, graduate with skills and certifications, and are hired following graduation.
At the conclusion of this session participants will be better able to:
• Discuss partnership opportunities with the local school to develop workforce solutions for local public works agencies.
• Design an entry-level workforce development program in cooperation with the local school district.
• Fill entry-level positions with qualified local talent.
