This presentation will discuss “inside the box” thinking for urban stormwater mitigation. A common challenge to urban stormwater mitigation is finding a site to put the excess ruff to relieve flooded areas. Two case studies will be presented where large scale underground detention was provided within public Right-of-Way (ROW) under the municipal roadway. the case studies are located in the City of Lake Forest, IL and the Village of Glenview, IL. Both projects had significant utility conflicts and constructability issues to overcome, and both resulted in a portion of the underground vault located below the outfall invert, which required the inclusion of a stormwater lift station.
By attending this session, participants will be better able to:
– Recognize challenges with urban flooding mitigation.
– Determine utility conflict concerns and ways to overcome them for detention within public ROW.
– Determine constructability issues and ways to overcome them for detention within public ROW.
