To assist jurisdictions and public agencies in navigating their asset management journey, APWA has developed an interactive Asset Management (AM) Roadmap. It is designed to assist communities in systematically implementing their asset management system and is structured around the key asset management themes defined as roadmap stops. This session will introduce the APWA AM Roadmap Stop focused on “Policy and Strategy.” The presentation will discuss best practices when developing an agency-specific strategy management plan. Over the last three decades, a large body of national, international, and industry standards and guidelines around asset management have been created, but they lack homogeneous application and consistency. Developing policy and strategy for a community must be a dynamic process so that the approach is flexible eugh to adapt and sustain during changing times while meeting the demands and expectations of communities. Join us for an interactive session to learn about practical solutions to challenges faced by public agencies and discuss common sense-based industry applications. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Identify the steps to establish an effective asset management policy and strategy.
• Provide public officials and agencies the tools to intelligently educate stakeholders and the community on the benefits of a robust asset management program.
• Formulate best practices to strategically move communities forward while maximizing return on investment for infrastructure renewal and replacement.
