About This Group
APWA is soliciting interest from APWA members to serve on either of our nominating committees. The nominating committees are responsible for reviewing applications, interviewing, and selecting candidates for the affirmation ballot. The 2024 National Nominating Committee is responsible for the positions of President-Elect and Technical Directors – Engineering & Technology, Environmental Management, Leadership & Management, and Transportation. The Regional Nominating Committees select the candidate for their region. For 2024 those director positions represent regions III, IV, VII, and IX.
Nominating committees meet exclusively via conference call between January and mid-March when candidates are selected for the affirmation ballot. Calls typically last 60-90 minutes. The time commitment varies, depending on the number of candidates applying for the position. See below for more details. If you wish to know more about the role of the nominating committees, please contact nomination@apwa.org.
The ideal nominating committee candidate is active in their chapter and/or region and has a broad knowledge of APWA programs at the national level.
Nominations for the nominating committees are due on Monday, November 27 and should be submitted here.
General information:
APWA’s Bylaws (Article XII, Sections 1 and 2) call for the APWA President to appoint national and regional nominating committees to fill positions on the APWA Board of Directors. The opportunity to serve on one of these nominating committees is open to all APWA members.
The national nominating committee is comprised of one active APWA member from each geographical region and the two most recent past presidents. Regional nominating committees are comprised of one active APWA member from each of the chapters within the regions with a director whose term will end in August 2024. This year President Losier will be appointing members to serve on committees for Regions III, IV, VII, and IX.
A good nominating committee member is one who interacts with others at regional and national events and can represent the membership when carefully and fairly reviewing and evaluating the background information prepared by each candidate and disclosed during the candidate interview. The ideal nominating committee member can put aside their individual, chapter, and regional interests, representing the entire association when serving on the committee.
The anticipated time commitment for the position varies by committee and the number of candidates for each position. The committee’s work will be completed through a series of conference call meetings held between February 1 and March 15. All board candidates participate in their own 45-minute videoconference interview. Final selections for all board candidates will be no later than March 20. Once the committees are in place, members will complete polls to set aside specific dates and times for calls and interviews.
The Regional Nominating Committee time commitment is approximately four hours (introductory call, 2–3 interviews and a final decision-making call) plus time reviewing the nomination packets.
The National Nominating Committee will be evaluating candidates for the President-Elect position as well as four technical director positions. It is anticipated the commitment would be approximately 11 hours (introductory call, 7–9 interviews and a final decision-making call), plus time reviewing the nomination packets.
