All are seen as safe seats for their respective parties, so we should not see surprises. Former Conservative MP and now-People’s Party Leader Maxime Bernier may bring some additional attention as a candidate in the riding of Portage—Lisgar, but it would be a surprise to see him flipping the seat. The Prime Minister did not call the by-election in Calgary—Heritage, Alberta yet, likely due to the overlap with the Alberta provincial election. This is the riding which was vacated by Bob Benzen at the end of 2022, and was formerly held by the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper. The latest date this riding by-election must be announced by is July 2, 2023. Given that former Conservative Leader the Hon. Erin O’Toole plans to retire at the end of the June 2023 sitting of the House of Commons, we may see that by-election called around the same time.
