Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted another step forward with the Budget 2023 investment to protect Canada’s freshwater supply by establishing a new Canada Water Agency. The government heard from the public in an engagement process about the role the Agency can play to help sustainably manage fresh water across the country. More details will come out, and related legislation will likely be introduced by the end of 2023 to establish a stand-alone agency under the Minister of Environment and Climate Change. In the meantime, Winnipeg has been announced as the location for the Agency, with a specific site in the city still to be determined.
